SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS

Speaking Engagements and Workshops/Classes

Sandra Johnson, is now traveling the country full time speaking to quilt guilds and other groups about her quilts and the her path as a textile artist. She is scheduling events through 2017.
Sandra will take you on a journey along the quilt trail, beginning with the very first quilts she made, and her wish to honor her grandmother's sewing art. Sandra's presentation features traditional, modern and art quilts, some of which rival cloth quilts in their intricacy. You will hear stories of some of the individuals who have influenced  quilt designs to honor loved ones or their local culture, along with a few poets, public officials and humanitarian activist.
The presentation is both informative and entertaining, as Sandra explores the way in which our quilting heritage takes on new meaning as this movement continues to expand.
Sandra also offers a half-day modern quilt workshop for those who would like to participate in this new form of "quilting."

Lectures, Fees and Contract

Classes and Workshops:

In my workshops, the emphasis is always on self-confidence, a sense of adventure, persistence and inspirational motivation for the student. I am available to teach in the USA and internationally.

Lectures:

Lectures are approximately one hour in length and I will conduct a question and answer period after the lecture. I will make every attempt to bring as many quilts with me as possible to share with my audience.

“Nurturing Your Creative Spirit: Personal Traits That Inspire Great Quilts”

Passion, humor, persistence, faith in your work, courage...these five qualities and others all play a role in your creative life. What does it take to be a great quilter?? I discuss how I learned important life lessons...sometimes the hard way…through quiltmaking.

"When I Grow Up I Want To Be a Quilter"

For years I tried many different crafts and explored art in all mediums. One day I realized there was a benefit to this crazy urge to try new and different things. I talk about how everything learned from past projects are contributing to and enriching my work in my quilts today.

"Interpretations of a Nature Lover"

Endlessly inspired and awed by the beauty and color of my surroundings, this lecture/slide presentation parallels my love of nature and how I interpret it in my quiltmaking.

Fees and More Information . . .

Schedule of Fees
(Within the USA)
A note regarding class fees: I figure my class fee a bit differently than most teachers. I charge per person (per day) for classes rather than a set flat rate. For instance, my class rate is currently $37.50 per student. The minimum fee I charge for a class is $37.50 x 16 (minimum) = $600. For 20 students the price would be $37.50 x 20 = $750. The exceptions to this price structure are quilt shows when I will charge a flat fee for classes. I found this structure is beneficial to quilt guilds, especially those with smaller memberships. For more information or questions about the workshops or fees, contact Sandra at sandrajohnsondesigns@gmail.com

Full day workshop-guild --$37.50 per student per 6-hour day. The minimum class fee is $600 (for 16 students) Maximum students in a class-- 25. A sewing machine is required unless noted.

One-hour lecture ----$500. $400 when scheduled concurrently to a workshop. No limit on group size.

I will bring as many quilts as available for the lectures/workshops when driving to your location.

If travel is by air or overseas, the number of quilts I bring will be limited. Client pays shipping and insurance costs if client requests shipping more quilts.

The client is responsible for all meals, parking fees and travel arrangements, including coach airfare on a major national carrier and ground transportation to and within the destination city. I request round trip mileage reimbursement of the current amount set forth by the IRS for distances covered by car. All arrangements must be approved in advance. If overnight lodging is necessary I would appreciate non-smoking accommodations in a safe, comfortable hotel/motel.
