Description

This annual, juried exhibit showcases works in fiber created by African American artists from throughout the US. The 9th installment features pieces by 38 artists inspired by the life of Maya Angelou, a phenomenal woman, daughter of the South, Mother of the Civil Rights Movement, Speaker of Truth to Power, and inspiration to so many women from all walks of life. This year’s theme challenged artists to create fiber works, such as art quilts, dolls, wearable art pieces, and more, that express their personal relationship to Maya, her work, and her life.  How has she made their artistic journey more meaningful? What were her words that inspired them to keep keeping on? How did she help them to RISE?  Curated by award-winning and nationally exhibiting textile artist, Torreah “Cookie” Washington, this unique opportunity offers African American fiber artists a showcase to exhibit their original and innovative designs executed in a variety of traditional and non-traditional fiber techniques.
Here is my quilt which is in the exhibition.
